Butterfly Cove has been approved as a pollinator garden! This means, I will grow lovely flowers which will support our bee and butterfly population. I must grow from an approved list and-because I am an overachiever- I planted three rows of perennials in November of 2024 even before I received official word that the proposal was accepted.

Since acquiring my grandmother’s land, my goal is to honor her memory for in doing so I also honor the people of Appalachia. (pronounced “Apple-atcha”). I believe that the land teaches those who listen. We are stewards working in harmony. In all farm activities, we show reverence by incorporating sustainable and ethical growing practices. We recycle paper and cardboard and use along with mulch, for weed control. We do not spray.

While the land looks barren now, I am confident God has opened this door for me and will bless this land.

One tenth of an acre doesn’t sound like much until you measure it out and break the ground. One of my favorite scripture verses is, “Lord, strengthen my hands.” I suspect I will be praying this often.
